    Education: Schools & Women

While at a festival in FNQ I dreamt an idea of bringing pregnancy & birth education outside the normal parameters it had been traditionally inside, in our modern culture. I saw that learning about pregnancy and birth after women were already well into their first pregnancy, was suboptimal, girls & women needed to be aware of important information long before pregnancy. Equipping girls and women of all ages with the knowledge of the passage of pregnancy and childbirth means they can support each other and be empowered themselves! This leads to higher autonomy and satisfaction in their future pregnancy and birth journeys.

I joined with a dear Midwifery colleague and friend, and in 2023 we began. True to Birth has also delivered education internationally in Nepal. This education is flexible and tailored to a variety of needs. This can be delivered at festivals, schools, women’s conferences and more. Contact me well in advance for more details!

  • Midwifery consultation for media, screen, stage, theatre, novels, art

    Consultancy for Creative Media

How many times as a woman & Midwife have I read or watched pregnancy & birth portrayed not only clinically inaccurate, but also repetitively & unnecessarily disempowering. I offer Midwifery consultancy for anyone creating any mode of media that speaks to the public.

Maybe it is just a paragraph in a chapter, or a long scene on the stage or screen, I will work with you to create an accurate portrayal clinically but also one that supports your characters development and overall storyline. If possible, in any way I will seek for birth to be empowering or physiological as much as possible within the context of the necessary storyline. When this is not possible for the necessary storyline, I will ensure clinical accuracy and recommend the significant impact on the woman be communicated in the narrative.

Girls, women, families, watch and read the narratives of birth in media and it is often, sadly, a significant part of the knowledge women have gleaned of birth, before they experience it themselves. I believe the platform of media has a powerful opportunity to promote, influence and speak to pregnancy, birth and motherhood.

This service is in the early development stage and therefore it is accessible and affordable. I can’t wait to work with you! Contact me!
